An Inconvenient Truth: A Global Warning

Filed under: Reviews — Judy Phillips @ 11:29 pm

an inconvenient truthI am not a movie critic by any means, but as a self pronounced skeptic there is one truth I can draw with relative certainty; if I was deeply moved by this film, others will be moved as well.  Besides, movie critics aren’t worth their weight most of the time anyway - my opinion can’t be bought (wink).

An Inconvenient Truth was just that - a deeply moving film that spells out in quite certain terms, the future consequence of global warming should the world [and more specifically the United States] continue to rely so heavily on fossil fuels without regard to environmental impact.  What is the future of our fossil fuel dependance?  Well, to gain a true grasp on the magnitude of the situation, watch the movie, but the long and short of it simply stated - apocalyptic.  And no, we arent talking about thousands of years, or even hundreds of years.  We’re talking decades here.  Scary? You betcha.

For my fellow skeptics out there (and yes, an open mind with a healthy amount of skepticism is a good thing), the film is devoid of consipiracy theory"ish" overtones.  Just hard scientific fact presented with urgency and emotion…

An Inconvenient Truth is authored by Al Gore, who brings his message of urgency to all who will listen.  His charisma, genuine concern, and his ability to convey his message in plain and simple terms are what will ultimately bring it to people everywhere.  If there was ever an environmental documentary that had potential to reach every American household, this is the one; and if you haven’t heard of this movie yet… you will.  My skin is still crawling from what I now know as a result of watching Al Gore

With that said, I leave you with a haunting quote from An Inconvenient Truth, courtesy of Winston Churchill:

"The era of procrastination, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences."

  1. Yes, an excellent movie that seems to be receiving some much deserved attention. I bought a copy through my local Whole Foods, but I do have a small bone to pick about that. The dvd was close to 30 dollars?! If Mr. Gore is so adamant about curbing global warming, why not price the movie a little lower? Just a thought.

  2. You have got to be kidding me. I don’t know what is worse…actually buying a movie made by Al Gore, or believing that “global warming” is actually caused in large part by humans or farting cows.Let me clue you in on something…it’s called weather manipulation. Those jets flying in the skies leaving behind them what looks to be “jet fuel” is not jet fuel. It is in fact barium. “They” pump the atmosphere full of barium and god knows what else, thus causing manipulation of atmospheric ions, thus creating a way to control the weather…abd this is what is wrecking our skies and atmosphere. They are called chem trails. Look it up on any search page. Actors and actresses and other people in the “know” with alot of money have actually started a real group in California to warn people about what’s really going on…but you will never hear about it in the mainstream media. Wake-up and smell the methane….we are having unseasonable weather and climate changes because of weather and atmospheric modifications…

  3. Laura,

You have either been deep breathing some of that methane you are referring to or you have not been taking your medication as perscribed. That has to be one of the most ridiculous conspiracy theories I have ever heard. So, let’s see……all the coral that was thriving 20 years ago along the Great Barrier Reef–that was killed off by manipulation. You’re the one who has to be kidding. I have been lucky enough to have ventured all over the world and have seen some of the damage. I have also taken the time to read what scientists from all over (not just here) are reporting. You need to get out more……….

  5. First, it was endangered species that we love such as rats and insects. Then we started calling swamps wetlands. Now, we must protect the climate. The solution: stop moving. Yes, you with the business plan, you with the crane — stop moving. You are damaging something - specifically the view from my living room window. If you keep progressing, more people will move to my neighborhood. I’m going to keep jetting around the world, but you simple-minded peeps who don’t understand science, well you’ll just have to stop moving and stop having babies. I know the climate is not warming. Who cares? The global warming farce is just another way to stop you from moving into my class.

  6. Judy, your belief that mankind and not the sun is causing warming makes me wonder about your views on all matters.
